So in the previous post, I made the post using WYSIWYG Editor, in which the first thing that shows up on Google was Froala Editor. I was in a hurry that time, so I decided to just implement it in the local repository and tested it on the local machine.

It was GOOD.

So much functions. So much features.

Pretty customizable, I'd say. The only downsides I had is that It was pretty hard to implement custom button with my custom functions. All I want just a button to insert image by URL, but it saved the image on the browser blob.

I don't know what will happen on the production side, but the testing side is pretty good so far.

and then....

IT ASKED FOR LICENSE

Yeah, I forgot to read about the licensing of this, just to found that It's not open source. Well.... bummer..

The testing side is all sunshine and rainbow, until it asked for license on the production side. I definitely regret my decision after studying the API and concepts for like 4-5 hours.

I don't know, partly my fault because I didn't read carefully.

And because I'm a pretty broke college student, my survival instinct directly tells me to search for open source alternatives.

The Alternative

I found many suggestions online. And after reading and reading, I picked Quill.js

Partly because it was on the first page of Google search result.

And so i tried it.

AND IT'S MUCH BETTER

It's more minimalized but still with the editor tools you need.

You can set the heading, the color if you want, and add custom buttons.

As I'm currently not having online storage to store my blog images, I mostly used external images using URLs, and it's a hassle to do it in the HTML way.

So.. the verdict...

Verdict

I was only using this for about 30 minutes and I'm falling in love with this.

I'm going to explain it by points, since the toolbar has numbered list button, hehe.

Easy setup and customization. Setting the editor up is like using Froala. Add CDN links, specify the element for the editor, and add Javascript to initialize it. Adding your functions seems pretty easy also, since you only need to specify the button to target your custom function. The API is pretty well-listed too, and I'm looking forward to explore more of this.
OPEN SOURCE. Yash! No need to worry about the limitation anymore, I hope. This is probably the best part of it because the fact that it's open source, you can customize it for your needs. You can maybe even integrate it with Vue.js or React.js/React Native if you're building mobile apps.

All in all, I'm glad that I found this package (or script?). I'm looking forward in exploring for another WYSIWYG editors and probably even making my own, but I'm going to stick with this for a pretty long time.

Closing statement

All in all, blog development is a pretty challenging journey. You got to explore the front-end and the back-end, and to always put in mind that security also matters. I still haven't put much work on the security, so expect vulnerabilities everywhere.
